My friend in cheese and dairy, Tim Pedrozo, of Pedrozo Dairy & Cheese Co., died suddenly on December 30th.

My relationship with Tim started when I was first gathering support for the Cheese Trail project. From the beginning, he was a huge supporter. We bonded over our love of cows, and the understanding of how a dairy struggles to survive. Over many lengthy phone conversations, we laughed, commiserated and Tim, never one to be short of words, talked my ear off. I loved it. He shared details and gossip about the cheese community that led me to realize that it’s those conversations that would help me find a way to support cheesemakers through networking and relationships.

Tim was the first to tell me when a cheesemaker was planning to change creameries, was searching for milk or struggling in one way or another. Tim knew all the dirt. He was a joyous man who loved his family dearly and gloried in the varied breeds of cows that he had on his property in Orland. It was a small but absolutely lovely farm. He loved growing flowers as well.

Even though Tim sold the ranch in 2022 (or so) and moved to the midwest to be closer to his son and family, we kept in touch - mainly via Facebook and through his dedication to watching all that was happening back in his California cheese community. Tim will be missed.

Sending much love to his wife Jill and the rest of his family.
