The new year brings plenty of changes in our cheese community. Here’s a quick look at the latest developments along the Cheese Trail—with some fresh faces, new locations, businesses on the market, and fond farewells.
New Makers
Say hello to Carmel Valley Creamery, Alexandre Family Farm, and Alemar Cheese Company, three exciting additions bringing fresh ideas to the scene. Each has a distinct approach to traditional cheesemaking, so expect unique flavors and plenty of innovation. All three are open to the public and will be featured on our 2025 printed map (ETA March).
On the Move
Drake Family Farm has packed up and headed to a brand-new spot. Keep an eye open for updated open-to-the-public opportunities.
On the Market
Curious about owning a piece of the cheese world? Cheese Central, BlueGoat Cheese Shop, and Black Market Cheese Company are all up for sale. Whether you’re a budding entrepreneur or just intrigued by industry changes, these listings could shake up the local cheese landscape.
Bidding Farewell
Two beloved names, Bohemian Creamery and Hacienda, have closed their doors. They’ll be missed for their signature cheeses and the warmth they brought to our community. Also, Daily Driver (San Francisco's only creamery, located in the Dogpatch neighborhood) is closing ... their other retail bagel shops remain open, however, and their cheesemaking will continue at their sister company, Tomales Farmstead Creamery / Toluma Farms. We wish them the best in their next chapters.
