Thirty-five years into America’s artisan cheese renaissance, the nation is chockablock with amazing cheeses that win international awards. Point Reyes Farmstead Farm Tour

Every Friday, May-October, from 1:30-3pm -- join a walking farm tour and a casual cheese tasting. Come a little early to enjoy a housemade ice cream sandwich on the patio and stroll around the edible garden.
 
DESCRIPTION: 
On the walking farm tour you'll learn the history of our farm and agriculture in the region, the life cycle (from birth) of a closed-herd of Holsteins, what Farmstead means and why it's important how artisan cheese is made. Back on The Fork patio, you'll enjoy a sampling of our cheeses and have the option to visit the retail cart before you depart. Arrive a little early to enjoy The Fork’s house-made ice cream sandwiches as you stroll through our edible garden and take photos with the baby calves.

Farm Tour & Cheese Tasting

Come out and meet the flock of 100 dairy sheep and see where and how Garden Variety makes their award-winning cheeses and yogurt. You will tour the milking parlor, cheesemaking facility and aging cave, and visit with the sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks, dogs and cats. The tour concludes with a cheese tasting. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED.

Hands on Cheesmaking Class with Award Winning Cheesemaker Sheana Davis

Cheesemaker Sheana Davis breaks down the barriers to cheesemaking, making it accessible, easy and fun with energetic, hands-on classes that teach participants how to craft a fresh, warm ricotta cheese that is ready to serve and enjoy within 90 minutes. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with locally crafted wine and artisanal cheeses.

Straus Home Ranch Tour

Blended Beauties: Cow, Goat, Sheep

Cow’s milk is buttery. Goat’s milk is tangy. Sheep’s milk is thick and rich. Working with more than one type of milk allows a cheesemaker to get creative and develop signature recipes that resemble no one else’s. Like some wines, the best mixed-milk cheeses achieve complexity through blending. Tonight, we’ll taste some stellar examples of two-milk and three-milk blends from the U.S. and beyond and see if we can detect the contribution of each milk type.
