Mark and Deneane Ashcraft raise their herd of award-winning dairy goats on sixty acres of lush organic fields in the northern portion of the Sacramento Valley. A passionate dairywoman, cheesemaker, farmer and animal welfare advocate, Deneane began breeding and raising her dairy goats in 1990. With her herd of many varied breeds, she has won several show championships and awards from the American Dairy Goat Association. As a sixth-generation California farmer, Deneane spends most days milking, caring for the goats, monitoring grazing and forage and handcrafting signature cheeses that are literally “of the grass.”
Their cheeses have won at ACS & the CA State Fair as well as being a Gold Medalist at the U.S. Championship Cheese contest. They were the first commercial goat dairy to be Animal Welfare Approved in 2009.
Following a model one would have seen decades ago, this true small family farm has Deneane as the full-time herdsman/milker for the goat herd as well as cheese maker, and Mark taking care of the farming and locally marketing their cheese.
They are also State permitted to pack and sell raw milk.
